earth_and_solar_energy_highdefinition_pictureOur industry is now fully aware of the importance of reducing energy usage and striving to ensure that as much as possible is from a sustainable source. The Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers is particularly vociferous, as it should be, in fighting the corner for sustainable energy and making it a viable option for new and existing buildings of all types.

However, that is only part of the struggle to achieve effective low carbon solutions for the built environment.

Gilfillan Associates are passionate about sustainability and believe that only a holistic approach to the design of buildings can produce the optimum solution for any particular project. This may not be always possible when working with existing buildings, but an option appraisal with comparative estimates of running and capital costs is often a worthwhile starting point which can trigger improvements in the building fabric and design.

We encourage continued involvement after handover which enables monitoring of building performance and assists in Client awareness of the potential for continued and sometimes improved energy conservation.

We have worked on BREEAM “Excellent” buildings and have undertaken various schemes involving ground source heat pumps, air source heat pumps, biomass and wood burning boilers, solar and PV panel arrays.

Terry Gilfillan is an Accredited CIBSE Low Carbon Consultant and Energy Assessor. SBEM calculations, EPC Certificates and Building Regulation compliance checks can all be undertaken.
